S-EEEMERGING ensemble in 2024-25!

We are delighted to announce that ensemble freymut has been selected for the Sustainable-EEEMERGING program 2024-25! This EU-funded program is dedicated to promoting and supporting young ensembles in the early music sector and offers us a wonderful opportunity to further develop our musical projects and present them to a wider audience. As part of the program, we will participate in exciting workshops, work in inspiring residencies throughout Europe and get to know new cooperation partners. Big thanks to the S-EEE team for this great opportunity! We are very much looking forward to the adventures and experiences ahead.

Check out our ensemble page on the S-EEE website!

Asia debut in South Korea - September 2023

In September 2023 we celebrated our Asian debut in Chuncheon, South Korea. Our first concert took place at the KBS Concert Hall and was broadcast on the KBS radio program "Coffee & Classic". Together with Korean recorder player and flute maker Jin-Hee Cho, they presented a French program entitled 베르사유 음악정원 - The musical garden of Versailles. Two days later, harpsichordist Sobin Jo gave a recital at the Toegye Catholic Church as part of the International Early Music Festival in Chuncheon, where we were happy to join her.
We would like to thank all our friends and supporters. Their warm hospitality has made this trip an unforgettable memory!

The 4th festival edition of ViertelBarock in summer 2023, curated by ensemble freymut as artistic director in cooperation with IG Servitenviertel, was a great success. The combination of colourful Baroque music, the verdant courtyard of the Servitenkloster, and the welcoming atmosphere of the French-inspired Servitenviertel made the festival a charming gathering point in the 9th district of Vienna. We would like to express our gratitude to all the guest musicians who performed with us, as well as those who created entertaining and interactive family programmes. A big thank you also goes to our audience - your enthusiasm is our greatest support!
The next edition of ViertelBarock will take place from September 6-8th 2024. Marking its 5th edition, we're thrilled to expand its reach to new locations within the district and foster collaborations with musicians and local businesses.
Further details to come!

02.02.2022 - A lucky number for our first radio concert!

On 02.02.2022 at 19h our freymut-hearts were beating high in unison. The time had come - after an intensive preparation phase full of inspiring, challenging and enriching moments, we stepped onto the stage of Kleiner Sendesaal at the WDR Funkhaus together with Johanna Falkinger.

In our radio concert, starting with two sacred works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Sébastien de Brossard, we led our listeners to the imaginative atmospheric images of the Suite in E minor by Marin Marais and to Michel Pignolet de Montéclair's cantata 'Le Triomfe'. The crowning finale of the evening was the cantata 'Le Café', in which the exotic beverage of coffee is praised and glorified in every conceivable fashion.

You can listen to our radio concert until 11 March 2022. We hope you enjoy discovering our favorite French works!

We would also like to thank Johannes Weiss and Stefan Gottfried for the inspiring musical coaching sessions and Richard Lorber, Ruth Wirtz and Johannes Zink for their wonderful support in Cologne.

At the beginning of September, Ching-Yao Wang was awarded 3rd prize at the International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg.
He presented a varied programme with music by Telemann, Hotteterre and Locatelli, accompanied by our wonderful harpsichordist Sobin Jo. In the finale, he had the pleasure of performing Telemann's Concerto in D Major TWV 51:D2 with the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra.

"It was a great experience to participate in this international competition. I am so grateful to have met so many fabulous musicians, to have made the acquaintance of professionals in the field of early music and for the stimulating and lively atmosphere at the competition. The memories and energy I gathered during these intense but rewarding days will accompany me in my next endeavours."

Together with the unique soprano Johanna Rosa Falkinger, we performed a 15-minute "Pasticcio Austriaco" with pieces by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Antonio Caldara, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber and Marc Antonio Ziani at the International H.I.B. Competition in Austria.

On 11 July, we were awarded the WDR Prize for our performance and musical interpretation. This prize gives us the opportunity to travel to Cologne next year and present a 60-minute programme to be broadcast by WDR. We are very grateful for this great opportunity.
